Following the spring edition of our newsletter, I received a few e-mails requesting news regarding the status of Splasm's financial products: CheckBook & CheckBook Pro. Specifically, one user wrote, "Will CheckBook Pro evolve and grow, or is it on the slow drift to blinking out? Now that is the major dramatic question that I wanted to know in the newsletter."
As an avid distance runner (and equally dedicated watcher of dramas) I accept the challenge to answer this question.
Not too long ago, my husband and I moved into a "new" house. Months from the end of our apartment's lease, we decided we should do some remodeling of the future nest. We sat down and made a list with two columns: things that needed to get done (the new house was in rough shape), and things that we wanted to do. "Step One," the list read, "Replace the toilet and adjoining pipe that appears to be leaking." So, we got down there and pulled the toilet apart, but that...my friends...is when we got a look at the floor. It was rotted.
"Step One" now ceased to be a single item on the list by morphing into its own multi-step process. As we continued down our list we found this happened to many of the other items as well. I can tell you that, despite the unexpected issues, we now live in an exceptionally beautiful dwelling.
Now this analogy is not meant to compare a dilapidated home to Splasm's Powerfully Simple Personal Finance Manager, but rather to explain what happens when one begins working on something new. Sometimes a project gets going and you find that it is going to be more complicated (and time consuming) than anticipated.
CheckBook & CheckBook Pro continue to thrive and, though they may have appeared to be in stasis, continue to grow. On my desk sits a shared list of over 75 features which have been requested by CheckBook users like you. The question now is, "Which of these features should be worked on first?" and that question branches off into questions such as, "Which of these features would be most helpful to our users?" and "How long will it take to complete each feature?" and "How will this feature fit into the current workflow and design?" The continued growth and development of CheckBook & CheckBook Pro are important to us and we put a great deal of thought into how changes will affect the integrity of each product.

AudioBook Builder: Listen While You Weed Whack
Have you ever dusted off a bookshelf only to realize how many books you haven't read yet? Here's a summer tip: Listen to your books while you weed whack, or mow, or re-roof your parents' cabin…well maybe not while on the ladder, but you get the idea. Listen to the classics, the books you've been meaning to enjoy, while you do the chores that you don't exactly love. Then, drop me a line at terra@splasm.com. Also, Audiobook Builder 1.2.1 which we released recently, now automatically ejects discs after importing and waits for another disc to be inserted. It even protects you from importing the same disc twice. Other enhancements in 1.2.1 include expanded VoiceOver support, Sparkle update support, and more!
Volunteering: Something you CAN do
Gurgling out of every media outlet, at a rate that nearly matches the slick itself, is the Gulf oil spill. It's impossible to avoid that punch in the gut every time we sit down to read or watch the news. The powerless feeling that comes with knowing there is something terrible going on and there is very little, if anything, we could do about it motivated my co-workers and I to make a pact.
We would find good things that we COULD do within our own communities.
Keith was the first to step up to the plate by volunteering with KidOne, an organization in Birmingham, Alabama that provides transportation to expectant mothers and children to medical appointments. He also got to practice his juggling…see more pictures on our blog!
Interested in volunteering? Check out handsonnetwork.org. Once you're on their website, just type in your zip code and browse through volunteer opportunities until you find something you want to do. Or simply go to the library and read the bulletin board. Or pick up that half-smashed beer bottle near the playground slide...
Every little bit counts, and volunteering beats watching the (depressing) news!
Forum Feed: More Fun than reading the "Help"
"I cannot figure out (I'm not only a new Checkbook user...I'm a new MAC user) how to erase entries from the To/From. Sometimes I may only write a check to a place once but it stays in the list in To/From while I would like to keep the ones that I use consistently. How do I delete entries from the To/From drop down list?"
