My accounts file is in iCloud. I am in the middle of a prolonged internet outage caused by a storm. I wanted to make an entry, and suspected that I could not because of the outage, but the application opened normally. I am guessing that the file is actually in two places - my Mac and iCloud, and when my internet comes back on, it will automatically update the iCloud file. Am I correct?

This makes sense now, it’s so users can work on their laptops without being connected.

That's right that you can make changes while offline. An iCloud document is always saved on the local device and changes to it are sent to the cloud automatically, whenever possible.
