It sounds like you're hitting an issue we're already aware of and have a fix for in the next update, due out soon. Basically, the app can get tripped-up, in some cases, while trying to present the Category detail menu with items matching what’s being typed, so you could get around the issue, for now, by disabling the Show menus automatically option under Settings/Entries. Supposing that doesn't help at all, do let us know!
