Hi, Just trying to find a way to make my chapter markers show up on my iPod Touch like they do in my playlist. No matter how I rename the tracks, my iPod always shows the same thing; chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3 etc. That's not enough info. for me.

What can I edit so that the chapter names are more meaningful on my iPod? Basically, the Bible has so many books that I can't keep them in the proper order. I really want to see what book I am in when viewing the chapters on my iPod.

Yep, you've come across a bug on Apple's part. Following the iOS 5.1 update—and continuing in 5.1.1—all iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches swap out unique Chapter names for generic ones. This seems to be happening with all Audiobooks, not just ones created using Audiobook Builder.

As soon as iOS 5.1.1 was released, we saw that the generic Chapter names issue was not addressed, so we went and bumped our bug report up at Apple. Upon doing this, we ending up discovering that the ticket is still open and unassigned, meaning it’s not being addressed—at least for the time being. We’ll check in again in a couple of months and let everyone know if Apple’s had time to look into it!

No updates yet on this issue. We frequently check out the bug report we filed with Apple about the bug, but they still have yet to even assign anyone to it. We're hoping it'll be fixed in iOS 6! Cross your fingers!

And apparently in iOS 6 chapter markers are now entirely gone on iPad? This is ridiculous.

While it's true that a list of Chapters won't be accessible while playing an Audiobook on an iPad running iOS 6, it doesn't necessarily mean that the markers are gone. Chapters can be skipped to, so there's still some navigation possibilities, although this isn't as convenient as seeing the full list of Chapters.

Can you recommend a better app for playing audiobooks on the iPad? I listen to a good number of audiobooks and find this quite annoying. Since I'm an iOS developer I'm going to file a bug report as well in the vain hope that it will draw some attention the problem.

Unfortunately, we haven't actually come across too many alternative music apps to run on the iPad. If you find a really good one, be sure to let us all know about it here.

I see that the latest iOS hasn't addressed the chapter titles issue, so here's hoping for 7...have you any news?

In a related issues, when I add separate artwork to each chapter in Audiobook Builder, where is it supposed to show in iTunes? Whenever I play a 'chapter', it shows the artwork for the first chapter. When I access info for chapter 4 for example, it shows chapter 1's artwork... Changing a chapter's artwork changes it for all chapters.

Still no word on iPad Chapter support updates. Apple's definitely been dragging their heels on that one.

When it comes to iTunes, Chapter artwork only really shows up under the Chapters menu while an Audiobook is being played. Check out that option where it will appear in the menu bar between the Window and Help menus.
