I quite often import audiobooks into Audiobook Builder that consist of just 2 or 3 files, each about 6 hours long, say.

Is there any way in ABB to "chapterise" these? I'm not fussed about splitting them at the EXACT chapters as written by the author of the book, just some way of splitting them into smaller segments to make it easier to skip/previous on the iPhone.

The Split button in ABB always seems greyed out to me...

With no actual track separations in your large Audiobook files, you may have to rely on Audiobook Builder's Equal Lengths Part Style setting. This will actually create several smaller files.

To set that up, just go into the Finish section and then click on the Build Options button located beneath where your cover art gets displayed. From there, choose 'Equal Lengths' using the menu button next to where it says 'Part Style.' Then, drag the Target Length to about how long you want each chunk to be. When you build the Book, you'll end up with smaller Audiobook parts that can be more easily skipped to on your iPhone.

Thanks. Presumably I could then re-import these smaller files and rebuild if I still want to end up with a single m4b file?

Yeah, re-importing the parts back into Audiobook Builder would work if you're willing to endure the two separate builds.

I'm happy to do that, but wouldn't it be better to have the option in ABB before the first build to split larger files into chapters <x> long, without having to build twice?

Good idea! We can certainly look into adding that to a future release of Audiobook Builder.
