Target length is for dividing up books into parts. If you set your target length to something under the total length of your book, you will get your book divided into part at your Target Part Length.

You can influence you maximum target part length by changing your quality settings for your book. If you want a longer maximum target lengths, you can lower your quality. For example, High quality preset will allow for up to 13 hour part lengths. Normal quality will allow for 18 hour part lengths. Low quality will allow for 27 hour part lengths. You can go even more extreme the lower you go if you do some custom settings.

Thanks for reply. I understand what you have said; however I can't figure out what are the advantages of multiple lengths versus one length for the whole book.

Your tech support is the best I have ever used !!

Sometimes a book is longer than the iPod or iPhone will allow in a single file so the Target Length gives you some control over how Audiobook Builder splits things up into multiple files. Some folks like the files to be about the same length, if possible, instead of one or more really long files followed by a really short file.

Thanks for your Audiobook Builder program. I like it very much. For most purposes it works very well. I wonder if "Target Length" is the answer to my question...
My problem is having 1 long mp3. I can not see how to split it so that I can fast forward to the next section - which would normally be either a file or chapter. With one long file I don't see how to put in the breaks. I certainly don't want one long file to search through if I accidentally hit fast forward and it goes all the way to the end of the book, or to the next book.

Thanks for advice.

:)

Currently Audiobook Builder does not have the ability to add breaks within an existing file. You could try using another application to split up the file, or use Audiobook Builder to build a book with equal length part setting in the build options and set your part length to 1 hour. You would then have to take that built book and create a new project with it, and pass those parts through to create a new book with chapter markers every hour.

Its a bit of a runaround, but may give you the results you need.
