Hello. New user here. Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I did a search of the forum and could not find an answer.

I have a big book where each chapter is broken down into many sections, or sub-chapters. It has 30 chapters, and about 250 separate tracks, total.

I'm wondering if it's possible to create sub-chapters within chapters -- basically, to have two levels of hierarchy.

I've tried to join the separate sections, but that just turns it into one big chapter, and then I'm unable to select the section separately.

I've tried fiddling with the Part Style options, but that doesn't get me what I'm looking for either.

Right now, I'm considering turning each chapter into a book, with each section as a chapter, but then I'm going to end up with 30 books. It's not ideal, but I think it's preferable to building it as one book as it seems like it would be unwieldy to navigate so many section/chapters.

I would also like to be able to listen to sections of the book on a small-capacity ipod. Building the entire book as one big file would not allow me to do that.

Any suggestions on the best way to proceed?

I have the same question. I'd like to give this topic a nudge.

For now I am joining the subchapters into chapters and breaking the audiobook by chapters.

The downside of this however is that a 25 or 30 chapter long book creates a lot of entries in iTunes and requires intervention at the end of each chapter on playback.

My audiobooks from Audible.com and such have this feature, so it seems like the format supports it OK and the info on the subchapters shows up in the ripping process. It is much more convenient to break a book of 20 or 30 chapters in to a couple of audiofiles with the internal chapters and subchapters appearing in those.

Ive not seen the use of subchapters and chapters within an audio file. If Audible is doing this, could you provide a screenshot or a link outlining how they are handling this? We would be curious to see what they are doing.

If you choose to set a target part length and break your parts between chapters, you will at least get parts that will end and begin on whole chapters, though you wont have explicit control over which chapters are in each part. Audiobook Builder will do its best to fit whole chapters the the time allotted to each part. Any extra information or samples on what you would like to see or how you would like your books to appear in iTunes would be helpful. Thanks for the feedback!
