Podner Help

Encoding a Video

To encode a video clip or movie file:

1. Launch Podner. A window will appear instructing you to drag your movie files to the window to begin.

2. Drag a movie file to the Podner window.

3. If Podner can work with your movie file, the Podner window will expand to reveal the movie and several options, including Encoding and Quality.

4. Select the appropriate Encoding for your movie file.

5. Select the appropriate Quality for your movie.

6. Enter an appropriate Genre for your movie file. This setting will not apply if you have set Podner's Preferences to not add processed files to the iTunes Library.

7. Enter an appropriate Name for your movie. This will be the name that appears in the Name column in iTunes or as the movie title in applications such as QuickTime Player.

8. Review your settings.

9. Press the Process button at the bottom of the Podner window. A progress sheet will appear, with a status bar to indicate how much has been encoded vs. how much remains. The sheet will also show you a rough estimate of how much time remains.

10. When Podner completes the process it will display a message stating its work is done.

Notes

If you need a video clip encoded as quickly as possible, MPEG-4 is probably your best bet. If picture quality is more important and you don't mind waiting for it, H.264 is a good choice. You may also choose to use your own custom settings, or use the original encoding (which will only prepare the movie file for use with iTunes). Please note that we cannot guarantee either of these options will produce a movie file that works on iPod.

The Quality setting will have a clear impact on the final file size, some noticeable effect on the picture quality and can also affect how long it takes to encode.
