I would like to see the addition of CMD B (⌘ B) as a keyboard shortcut to activate the FIle/Backup... menu item.

You can also create your own custom shortcut in macOS.

Open Preference/System Settings in macOS

Pick Keyboard (from left sidebar)
Click the button: Keyboard Shortcuts...
Pick App Shortcuts (from the left sidebar)
Click on the + (plus key)
Click on the Application dropdown
Pick the app: Checkbook / Checkbook Pro
Enter the EXACT menu phrase:
>> Menu title: Backup...
>> Shortcut: CMD-B
Done
Done
