Just installed the latest version of Checkbook (2.5.14). In the Account window, if there isn't enough space for the text in a given field, then Checkbook compresses the text by removing spaces and overlapping letters. I prefer the fashion text was displayed in prior releases--at least some of the text was legible. Now, in some cases the text is so compressed that it is illegible.

Can you do something about this?

Perhaps I don't understand your question, but in, say, the ENTRY window, all fields can be resized by clicking on the line between fields up in the heading (a double-sided arrow will appear) and stretching or compressing the field from there.

It has been noted that in the SCHEDULE window, the resized columns do not "stick" between openings of the app (an issue that will probably be fixed in the next release, I guess).

Ditto on what t3rockhall wrote.
There is a fix for the Scheduled view columns and things are back to normal. It should be available soon! [You might send an email to support and ask for a link to the fix...]

I've attached a picture of the compressed text. Notice that the text becomes illegible.

In the past, Checkbook would deal with a column that is too narrow by removing letters instead of compressing them. For example, if the text was

Transfer money to keep account from going dormant

then Checkbook would display

Transfer money to keep accou...

I realize that columns can be expanded, but there is a limit to the available space on the screen so some of my data needs to be truncated when diplayed.

A quick solution MIGHT be to go to CB Preferences and change your ENTRY FONT to a condensed or extra condensed font. I use "PT Sans Narrow." This will allow a few more characters per inch than a conventional font, so more characters will fit before compression occurs.

For the future, perhaps...
Long Entries:
◉Compress ◎Truncate

in Preferences might be a good way for CB to address the issue, though.

Thanks to everyone who commented.

Prider, thanks for the suggestion to send an email to support. I incorrectly assumed that Splasm support monitored the discussion groups. They probably have enough work to do and don't have time.

t3rockhall, you must be a young person. As one gets older, you need larger, less-compressed fonts to read screen text... any text. However, your suggestion was still good, just doesn't work well for me.

Hah! I am close to 80. I earned my living designing forms and contracts. Yes, I am the guy you can blame when you get a document with all that mouse writing on it. And my vision was awful until I had cataract surgery and got those implants. :lol:

Your only choice for now is to truncate your entries yourself when you see this problem arise, or use the notes column but don't display it. .
