And the $%&*! thing won't open. How can I get it to function?

*edit: In the OS X finder (Lion), the 'kind' is listed as property list.

-The error message I get says "Checkbook cannot open files in the "Document" format.

Okay, changed the location in preferences, got the file to open (with required password), and can see a total balance, and year end report (with all data). But no entries. Very frustrating.

Closed app, tried again, got it working.

Very frustrating. Error message should be re-worded so as to NOT send people down wrong track to fix.

It sounds like the error message you received was from the OS—Apple handles the opening process for files that are double-clicked and will display that sort of 'can't open' message. No matter the case, we're happy to hear you're back up in running.

Just so you know, .plist Accounts files are made by older versions of the application but can be opened through double-clicking in newer versions. So, you might consider updating to gain that functionality. To update, if you purchased from the App Store, log into the Store and check out the Updates section or, for a copy from our online store, choose 'Check for Updates...' from the CheckBook menu at the top of the screen.
