Hi, I'm trying out CheckBook Pro, coming from Quicken 2005. A common thing I do in quicken is enter a debit transaction in my checking account when making a grocery purchase and getting cash back. In quicken, I can make a split that includes one line with the Grocery category for the purchase amount, plus a line containing the cash back amount which has a transfer category for my cash account. The result is a deduction from the checking account for the total, and an increase of the appropriate amount in the cash account. I can't see a way to do that in CheckBook Pro. Am I missing it, or is there a workaround you can recommend to update both checking and cash accounts using the one transaction? Thanks.

CheckBook does not yet have the ability to create a partial transfer out of one of the splits. For the moment you would have to create a separate deposit of the cash in your cash account.

Your use case is a great example of how one would use a split transfer. We do have this as a request in our feature list and will bump it up by one. Thanks for the feedback and request!

Okay, thanks for the reply. I bought a license for CheckBook, so it's obviously not a deal breaker. Glad to know you are actively developing the app. It's a real relief to be free of Quicken finally, after years of not finding any reason to buy any of its upgrades. :( I've wanted to leave Quicken for a long time, and periodically I auditioned various other personal finance apps but never found any that fit me very well. Somehow I had missed CheckBook. It's really close to what I had in mind.

I have the same question as Cliff on split transaction. Response that you are working on it is heartening, but then I wonder what the purpose of the Split button on the Entry window is for? Also here as result of Lion not supporting Quicken.
I use split transactions frequently. For instance; recording entry of pay checks which have multiple categories such as--Salary, State Income Tax, Federal Income Tax, FICA. As I understand it I will have to make a separate entry for each of these categories. Is that correct? If so, when can we expect the update?

Is this type of split transaction now supported?
(i.e., the ability to have a transaction out of checking account that is split between a category like "Household:Groceries" and a cash account?)

I also get cash from the grocery store sometimes and want to make part of a transaction a transfer. I know the original post was a long time ago, but I am asking with Matt, is this now a supported function? If so, how do we go about it? Thanks!
