When I make an Apple TV movie, ViddyUp! doesn't deinterlace although I've asked it to in the preferences.

Is this deliberate because it's for display on a TV? If so, could deinterlace please become a user option?

In other words, is it a feature or a bug or just ham-fistedness on my part?

Is your source material DV? ViddyUp! relies on QuickTime for deinterlacing, and QuickTime only deinterlaces DV.

It's an export from Final Cut Pro, exported by reference from a timeline using the DV-PAL codec. That ought to count, surely.

QuickTime tells me it's DV-PAL too.

Could we get a look at a clip of your Final Cut export so we can watch ViddyUp! work on it? You can send anything under 100MB through http://yousendit.com. It's possible that we're not catching a specific set of attributes while making the decision to enable deinterlacing.

I've sent you a bit with fast action, especially towards the end. It shows the interlace artefacts beautifully.

I checked the file I sent you, and it definitely doesn't deinterlace when I use the Apple TV MPEG4 setting.

Thanks for sending the test file. We found the spot in ViddyUp!'s code where we neglected to test for PAL and got it working correctly. We'll have the fix in the next release of ViddyUp!, but if you need a fixed pre-release build please let us know at support@splasm.com and we'll send over a download link. Thanks for helping us find the issue!
