Post subject:  Wanted: New Name For Podner

Twice in the last week, the kind folks at Apple Computer have asked us to change Podner's name to something without the word "pod" in it. We don't see more than a passing family resemblance, but we can't say we blame them. "Podner" is an awfully popular iPod® video conversion tool and if we were Apple we might circle the wagons round little bits and pieces of our trademark, too. When companies like Apple Corps can sue Apple Computer over a trademark dispute we think it might be time to saddle up and move along to a new name. C'mon now, who's got the money to defend a play on words and a cute cowboy hat?

Thing is, "Podner" was the most marketable brand we could come up with and now that it's off-limits we're too tapped to beat it. Sure would be nice if you'd lend a hand with a suggestion or two! We're offering up a free Podner registration for each of the five names we like the best. Could you spare a moment to give us your thoughts, partner?

Post subject:  Podner name change

If you're looking to keep the same theme (sorta), I consulted the good ole thesaurus for some alternate choices. I like simplicity, so a one word name must do...

One that rolls off the tongue well, with a somewhat sometimes negative connotation: ACCOMPLICE.

Something a bit more casual, and a bit more cliche: SIDEKICK.

I'll try to come up with something more original when it's less late.

Keep bringing awesome splasm.

Hmmm. How about Vodner...works with the Vodcasting thing...sounds alot like Podner so you don't lose too much brand identity.

Blazer.

i'm thinking the logo to have something along the lines of fire, or lightning...not sure, the art dept can come up with that, but i like blazer. it's simple, to the point and goes along with the reviews that all agree that podner converts faster and better than apple's utility.

I kind of like Collaborator or Main Squeeze.

Collaborator because it obviously collaborates with the iPod to make videos together. Or Main Squeeze, which keeps with the "Partner" theme, but shows the application as being the one of choice to compress videos for the iPod...

Just a few suggestions that I came up with...
